BORTHWICK UPDATE
Christmas Greetings 2005 from the Borthwicks

Glory surrounded the first Christmas. The angels, surrounded by God's glory, sang and gave glory to God because Jesus Christ came to reveal God's glory in human form (see Luke 2:9, 14; John 1:14). Since that day, Christmas has been a special time set aside for giving glory to God, and that's what we want to do in this Christmas newsletter. Join us in giving God the glory for His gifts this year.

GLOBAL. We give God the glory for His work around the world. From Australia to Jerusalem, Russia to Sri Lanka to India, we've had the privilege with Development Associates International of seeing God's glory revealed in his faithful people this year. We can testify with Paul the apostle that “all over the world this gospel is growing and bearing fruit.” The church of Jesus Christ around the world is primarily non-Western, non-white, and non-wealthy – and we thank God that we've had the honor often in 2005 of serving either directly in this context or on behalf of these brothers and sisters.

LEADERS. We give God the glory for the leaders from whom we've learned, with whom we've ministered, and unto whom we've been teachers and encouragers in 2005. One of the great privileges of our work with Development Associates International is that we get to serve alongside the people who are making news in heaven's newsrooms – even if they are relatively obscure here on earth.

We give glory to God for Dmitry in Russia, Grace in Florida. Nito in Costa Rica, Ross in Australia, Suashini in Sri Lanka, and Lucy in India. Our lives are enriched because of our exposure to God-at-work through these people. One teaches high school Sunday School shaping young lives; two others work in their communities establishing micro-enterprise loan opportunities for the poor; another mobilizes people for cross-cultural mission; one is a Christian agriculturalist, and another is a seminary president.

OPPORTUNITIES. We give glory to God for the myriad of opportunities He placed before us again this year. We've been blessed with opportunities to serve in churches, Christian schools, and with Christian organizations. We thank God for the chance to influence students through teaching and relationships at Gordon College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. The Lord has opened new doors of opportunity to serve the poor through Paul's board membership with World Relief and to serve our own home church through Christie's internship at Grace Chapel.

RESOURCES. We give glory to God for the vast array of resources at our disposal. Whether it's the financial support of generous people who enable our ministry with Development Associates International or the academic resources available to us at Gordon College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, we're amazed (and at times a little overwhelmed) at the stewardship with which we've been entrusted.

YOU. We give glory to God for you – faithful friends, prayer supporters, financial partners. We benefit greatly from the people who have taken an interest in us and join with us in this ministry of influencing leaders, encouraging Christian workers, mobilizing the church for global outreach, and investing in the next generation. We give God glory because of your partnership in the gospel.

SO – this Christmas, join us in giving God the glory. Make your own list of glorious things He's done in your lives this year. Then join Paul the apostle in praising, "to Him be the glory forever and ever." And accompany the angels as they celebrate Christmas by singing "Glory to God in the highest"

Thank you for your partnership with us. Merry Christmas 2005

Christie & Paul

A note about end-of-year giving. Our budget with Development Associates International will increase in 2006 to about $6,300 per month. This includes our two part-time salaries, added health insurance benefits, and approximately $3,000 per month for office, administration, and travel expenses (every DAI international trip is self-funded; i.e., our hosts sometimes cover our land expenses, but our DAI budget covers our airfares and whatever is not covered by our hosts).

We thank God that we have reached our budgetary goals in the past few years, but we are aware that this has been made possible through regular givers combined with generous end-of-year gifts. If you'd like to join us in financial partnership, tax-deductible contributions (designated "Borthwick Support") can be made payable and sent to:
